2025 February Theme: The Delight of the Shadow

Song of Solomon 2:3 - As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

In the Scriptures, shadows aren’t always seen in a positive light, but there’s something wonderful about sitting in God's shadow that brings immense joy. The bride beautifully expresses that "his fruit was sweet to my taste." Isn’t it interesting how a shadow can provide such joy and sweetness to someone who is experiencing it? It’s not the shadow itself that brings delight, but the beautiful presence of God just beyond it that turns it into a source of happiness and sweetness.

We all face shadows in our lives from time to time. One well-known example is the shadow of death mentioned in Psalm 23, which reminds us that a deeper comfort can be found even in tough moments.

Psalm 23:4 - says, Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 

Death can be a tough subject to talk about, and it’s something we all have to deal with at some point. But as you walk through this challenging time, remember you’re not alone! You can find comfort in knowing that God is right there with you, supporting you every step of the way.

Also, we can happily notice the gentle shadow of God's wings.

Psalm 36:7 -  says, How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. 

The wings we see are like a hen cuddling her chicks under her wings during a storm. When we face tough times, God lovingly protects us from life's harshness. It's comforting to know that while God doesn’t take away the storm, He stays with us, offering support as we get through it. The warmth of God’s wings is a delightful reminder that we’re never alone, no matter what storms come our way!

We can make out the shape of His hand!

Isaiah 51:16 -  says, And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. 

The shadow of God's hand reminds me that He's guiding my life and that I'm one of His creations. It fills me with so much joy to know that He’s always keeping an eye on me, no matter what I do. It really feels like a wonderful gift to realize that He’s constantly shaping my journey.

Together, we can see the shadow of the Almighty!

Psalm 91:1 -  says, He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 

This shadow reminds me that God’s power is always with me as long as I stay close to Him. Knowing that He gives me the strength to do His work is a great motivation to remain under His care. When I do, I can truly feel His power and see incredible things happen in my life.

So, why is being under God’s shadow such a wonderful experience? It's simple: God is always by my side! No matter my challenges, I can find comfort and peace in the shadow of the Almighty. I can either step away from that shadow or sit under it and enjoy its warmth and love. If I decide to step away, I might miss out on the closeness of God's presence. But when I choose to stay under His shadow, I find protection and experience His amazing power in my life every day.
